Supporting Each Other Is A Must!

I hope you all had a restful and happy holiday weekend. I finally had some downtime time to reflect, and one of the things that kept coming up for me was the beautiful, powerful and often karmic notion of support.
In life, you can be on the receiving end of support, or you can be the one who gives it—and there are tremendous lessons on both sides. This is especially true when it comes to women. As women entrepreneurs, I truly believe it’s our duty to support one another, to provide that little boost upward, that extra push that someone may need to move forward. We all start from different places and progress at our own paces, but the one thing we all have in common, is that every now and again, no matter where we are, we could all use a hand. And the best thing about support is its loop-like essence: it has an almost mystical way of boomeranging back to you when you display it for someone else.
This month I was asked by People en Español to nominate an Ahijada, a god-daughter. They asked me to choose someone I admire, someone who exemplifies the SELF MADE woman. I have nominated Alex Reyes as my ahijada. Alex is an entrepreneur who truly exemplifies what it is to be SELF MADE.
Alex went to beauty school at 12 years old because she loved doing hair and didn’t want to depend on anyone for her money. At 19, she bought her first beauty salon, which she paid off in record time. Then she became a single mom and devoted herself to her son and put him through private elementary and high school, college and law school, all without student loans.
Following another SELF MADE tenet, Alex took her pain and made it her brand. She created Tramps Fashion Compression Hosiery, a line of compression hose that would help her legs while she worked standing up all day and still looked and felt great, something she could never find in stores.
Alex is the embodiment of a SELF MADE woman. She has been financially independent since she was in her 20s, has worked tirelessly for her business, made her own money, and now started a business that can help women (and men) to combat bad circulation, symptoms varicose veins and blood clots.
And Alex also proves that it is never too late to have a rich life in every way. At age 63, she found love and got married a year ago for the first time. She married a man who had been delivering beauty products to her salon every week for 20 years!
In celebration of this this SELF MADE role model, let’s all show our collective support, and help Alex get to the next level of her success. With your vote, my nominee can win to join People en Español 25 Most Powerful of 2016. Vote now at peopleenespanol.com.
